TEAM'S HISTORY

9 Years of many stories, counting on the sweat and claw of each member, where the technical and personal evolution is evidenced in today's professionals in the world automotive industry.

THE BEGINNING - 2010'S TEAM

In April 2010, a group of 12 first-year students from the Automotive Engineering course met at the suggestion of Professor Cristiano Ferreira to start a competition project. The year 2010 was full of analysis and learning, with some visits to the Formula UFSC and Baja UFSC teams, both from Florianópolis. In November, the Formula CEM team witnessed the national stage of the Formula SAE competition, which took place in Americana-SP, with the objective of analyzing the projects of leading teams, to start the first combustion vehicle project.

2011'S TEAM

The year began with research and detailing of the guidelines established by the Formula SAE Brasil competition, together with the incorporation of computational geometric modeling (CAD) concepts and study of the functioning of the main subsystems.
The team gradually advanced in the manufacture of mechanical components and chassis. However, the project ended only in the design and development of the body.

2012'S TEAM

It can be said that the year 2012 was a symbolic year for the Fórmula CEM team, because it was the first national competition with the prototype "FC1". Despite the then-initiated strike of servants and teachers, it was not an obstacle. The first half of the year spoke with the presentation of projects to the community, the renewal of sponsors and the construction of the chassis. The second was dedicated to the completion of the race and, of course, at the end of the race car. All its manufacturing and development was based on experimental data obtained through field tests, aiming at reliability studies, such as the incorporation of concepts of computationally assisted manufacturing of components associated with the Powertrain sector.

Even so, the novice design, and an inexperienced manufacturing plan, have resulted in below-expected performance. With this, after finishing in 22nd place among the 26 cars, the group sought to translate the experience into learning and motivate itself for next year.

2013's TEAM

With the second participation accredited, some changes were necessary to the baptized prototype "FC1X". The group worked on structural and constructive aspects: the concept of computer-aided manufacturing, the new elements of suspension, steering and Powertrain and also the incorporation of concepts of ergonomics applied to the chassis. Even hand drawings were executed before reaching the final version made by software. However, in spite of the improvements applied, the performance in the competition was not higher than the previous year due to the displeasure in relation to the reports: 26th place of the 31 cars (15º except the penalties with the reports). At the end of the competition the team remained perseverant in their goals and realistic about the results, envisioning a 2014 change.

2014's TEAM

Another season of changes and experiences to the members of Formula CEM. Strategic planning now relied on organizational development and project research aimed at continuous improvement of results by members. The "5S's" tool, sectoral study groups and the horizontalization of the team structure were implemented. Project management was improved following a project planning standard based on the PRODIP (Integrated Product Development Project) model.

Alongside this also happened the process of insertion of the new members joining practices of researches and studies in each sector. The year was also dedicated to marketing: the community interaction and Formula CEM, the disclosure of the Formula SAE competition and the team itself. To close the year with a gift in the luggage, the group went to the competition as a guest to update the news presented by the competitors and prepare for the next project.

2015'S TEAM

At the beginning, the 25 students of Formula CEM announced the new logo in black and white colors; and the key words Speed, Daring and Serious translated the qualities that anticipated the design of the new car. The team returned to the tracks as "FC2-Tuper" and in search of the top ten places in the national competition. The team focused on the development of the 2015 project by setting some requirements: performance, weight reduction, safety, space utilization, ergonomics and commitment to costs. In addition, the methodology was strengthened by putting in place new resources such as Brainstorming, Benchmarking, Project Management Tools, Bibliographic Review and others.

The entire project took exactly ten months of design and two months of manufacturing and assembly, therefore a year of work. Finally, built and prepared the vehicle for the event, the team showed its presence in Piracicaba-SP and participated in another edition of the national competition Formula SAE Brazil. Even with the problems in the dynamic tests the FC2-Tuper received good placements. In the static tests, it was in 8th place in Report, as well as in Costs and Manufacturing, being 4th in the subcategory of Costs and 10th in Manufacturing Facility. In the Design category, 4th place in the Project Management subcategory, 6th in Chassis and 10th in Suspension.
Facing 38 other teams in the combustion category, FC2-Tuper finished 19th overall.

2016'S TEAM

The year 2016 was a maturing year and, in fact, is among one of the most striking in the history of Formula CEM. One of the reasons they made the '' mark '' was teamwork, creativity and innovation. Not for nothing were simply the values of the team. The vision continued to be positioned among the top ten teams in the national competition until 2017.

The organizational structure and the new work procedures were clearer. Project Management incorporated PRODIP (Integrated Product Development Process), Manufacturing Management focused on the inspection and quality of manufactured products, and in turn, People Management improved the processes of capture, development and retention, mainly with the incorporation of the Management Model by Competence.

The premises for the design and development of the prototype were one of the main factors for the construction of a pleasant model: safety and comfort; weight reduction; commitment to the environment; reliability and commitment to cost.

When the competition arrived, the team made good numbers. He participated for the first time in the endurance race, was 3rd in the static design test of the Drivetrain system, and over the top triumphed in the test of manufacture (Real Case).
In the overall standings the "FC3-Tuper" was the 17th placed among the 40 cars. And the end of the year still had the announcement and decision of the team to participate in the Electric category.

2017'S TEAM

New members were integrated and a new challenge was taken, that of making two cars in one year!

The team sought to improve in each sector, both technical and administrative. Incorporating the materials and techniques invested in previous projects, now folded with the adhesion of the 2nd prototype.

We had to reinvent ourselves in logistics and organization, both in car design and transportation, and in the competition itself.

The 2017 Formula SAE was full of surprises for the whole team: Starting with an unexpected penalty on our IC chassis and the malfunctioning of its BMW engine electric, which led us to an incessant scramble to advance in every combustion race that, Even with the engine malfunctioning, it managed to reach the enduro - the last race of the 4 days of competition.

Some of the results obtained were:

  • 5th place- IC Project Management

  • 6th place  - Real Case IC

  • 7th place- Frame Design IC

  • 3rd place - EV Costs

  • 5th place - Real Case EV

  • 7th place - EV Business Plan
